Today we got to watch the HD broadcast of Nixon in China pretty much by ourselves. Tweeting ensued. Here it is:
- About to watch hd broadcast of @metopera’s #nixon. Saw it live last week – can’t wait to see & compare.
- “Respect women. It is their due.” Oops – Mao blows this (no pun intended) #nixoninchina
- The people are the heroes now – esp in light of Egypt. Good timing, @metopera #nixoninchina
- The problem with listening to vs watching an opera is you miss the look on Pat Nixon’s face.
- What? Is this John Adams birthday?? Must get a card off.#nixoninchina
- I want 3 assistants to stand behind me acting out everything I say and agreeing. Any takers? #nixoninchina
- Mao is napping. #nixoninchina
- Chou en lai is fascinating but what I really want to know is what they will be served for dinner. I should have eaten first. #nixoninchina
- More political speeches should be delivered as arias. #nixoninchina
- My non-opera friend is starting to wonder if the 5 day visit is portrayed in real time. #nixoninchina
- Great to see historical photos from which scenes and costumes were drawn. #nixoninchina
- Seeing shots of the Met backstage makes me a little giddy.#nixoninchina
- It looks like someone in the chorus is wearing goggles from Dr. Atomic. #nixoninchina
- Pig pig pig pig….. #nixoninchina (I was hoping for real pigs)
- Fun fact: you can tell when the animals arrive at the Met.
- Me: “this is where it gets weird.” My friend: (blank stare) #nixoninchina
- OH: “Can people pick their seats?” “Not in public.”
- Richard Fink looks completely different when he takes on the Kissinger role. #nixoninchina
- Oh Kissinger, you dog. #nixoninchina
- We were spared some of the Mao antics. His aides had quite a job description (no pun intended). #nixoninchina
- Implication earlier that Chou died. Closing aria delivered by zombie. #nixoninchina
- And that’s the end. Could watch #nixoninchina 8 more times and still miss things.
